Can you try this? Create a new user account. Give the account administrator privileges, log on as the new user and try the installation again.

Glad to hear it!
The problem was that something had been corrupted under your other user account which prevented a successful installation of SQL Server Express.
You can either use the new user account or you can try going back to the previous account and install and use Power Music from that. Since SQL Server Express has now been installed on your laptop subsequent Power Music installations will run seamlessly as it detects the existence of SQL Server Express and does not have to reinstall it.

All seems to be fine. I transferred most of my profile to a new user account as there were a few other things not working properly either. Glad to say PM is working well and I'm hoping for a first live outing as soon as the snow permits the delivery of my pedal.
